We Have Suffered: Jessy Reyes's Story

It is amazing that we can each make the world a better, brighter place with our everyday actions. Through Fuerza Honduras, we are helping families in a small way who are in incredibly difficult situations, and that brings hope.

Jessy Karolina Reyes Bejarano is 34 years old and lives in the community of Río Chiquito, El Progreso, Yoro. She currently works at a gun station in the city, and her husband works on the farm.

H&H Medical brigade physician, Dr. Gissell Ramirez, recalls the first thing she said, “Thanks to God, I managed to arrive on time to be able to get medical care for me and my children who are ill.”

As they continued talking, she showed her a video of her house on fire right before the disaster of the hurricanes.

"It is difficult what we have had to live with. My husband and I have have survived three hurricanes: Mitch, and now with my children, Eta and Iota. My little house has suffered great damage on three occasions. But thanks to the Lord and his mercy, we have, little by little, been able to build a house again.

“We have suffered a lot of anguish, grief and impotence…

We were in a shelter for almost 3 months where we sometimes ate once or twice a day.”

After talking for about 45 mins, Gissell said she was reminded of how significant both the food distribution and the medical brigade are, and what this represents for each of those who are given help.

"I get up every day at 3:30 AM in the morning to make food for the children and then arrive at the station at 5 AM.”

Jessy shares how there are times when she doesn’t even have enough money for a plate of food. This health and nutrition support is vital.

Jessy awaits anxiously for H&H’s visits and is grateful for all we can do for them.

"I am excited because [H&H] brings us supplies. First of all, I thank God for putting us on the path of Humanity and Hope, that supports us. Very grateful, God bless you.”
