Volunteer Spotlight: Jack Jennings

Meet Jack Jennings! He visited for the first time in 2018, and has been on 5 trips since. He serves as a Hope Circle member and is involved in H&H in a variety of ways through Warsaw Community Church. We are so thankful for Jack’s passion and willingness to serve Honduras with us! Thank you for all you do, Jack!

How did you first hear about Humanity and Hope?

I heard about it through the church in Warsaw Community Church. This is the where Jordan and Riley Fuller grew up, so that legacy kind of lingers. I heard about a building project in Honduras in the summer of 2018 and I have been on five trips since then.

What was the most eye-opening thing you’ve seen in Honduras?

The 11-year anniversary trip was my last trip, and it was the most eye opening. To see the connection of Hondurans living in La Cuchilla and La Coroza working with the other communities to build them up was incredible. We used to go and serve them individually, and now they’ve joined us in serving others. They have such a deep love for the people around them. It was amazing to see the grace poured out at the 11-year mark. We were celebrating the people and how their lives have changed. More so, it was about how their reality changed only because H&H has stayed.

As a volunteer, I have seen that there is an innate intimacy you build with someone when you meet their physical needs. From there, they open emotionally and spiritually which makes them more receptive to faith, which is just beautiful.

What was your favorite part?

The home visits and building relationships with specific families. I got a better understanding of who they are and the relationships being built there.

Advice to someone thinking of going on a trip?

Just take the first step and go. Put the excuses to the side and find the time. The first step is the hardest. It will eventually become a natural reaction. Maybe the first step is giving financially and becoming a part of The Hope Circle. You can be a part of this in a number of ways!

How has being a part of H&H changed your daily life?

The most prominent thing that I have noticed is in my prayer time. My prayer time has turned to me praying for the people in Honduras. They are constantly on my mind, so I feel prompted to pray for their well-being, as well as all that H&H is doing.

how do you continue to stay involved with H&H?

I am on the mission’s team at our church that supports H&H in several ways. Our small group that we call the “Pit Crew” had four people go down to Honduras last year. We have assisted with a governance committee, annual processes for evaluating H&H leadership, and stewarding the operational future for the team to flourish for years to come.
