5 Questions with Pastor Roger

We are so excited to feature Pastor Roger on the blog today! Pastor Roger is Humanity and Hope’s spiritual leader. If you’ve been on a trip with us and had the pleasure of meeting him in person, you know it’s hard to forget his warm smile and welcoming demeanor. We are so thankful to have him on the team!

Pastor Roger is currently leading a new initiative in Remolino and La Coroza called “Joseph Silos”. The idea is for members of the community who attend church to gather food and groceries, put them in a basket, and deliver them as a group to a person in need within the community. When they deliver the groceries, they gather together and pray for this person’s needs. By doing this, the members of the church are giving back to the community and the church is playing an active role as well.

Learn more about Pastor Roger’s background (hint: it might not be what you expected) and all of the great work he is doing for our communities in Honduras!

What were you doing before you joined Humanity and Hope?

My background is in civil engineering. Before I started working at Humanity and Hope, I was supervising design and construction with a company that was formed in 2009.

Why did you decide to get involved?

I decided to get involved after meeting Riley Fuller, the president and co-founder of Humanity and Hope. As I got to know him, he told me about his vision for the organization, and it resonated with me. In my heart, I felt called to serve those who were less fortunate. I felt that getting involved with Humanity and Hope was a great way to do that.

What has surprised you the most during your time with Humanity and Hope?

I was most surprised by how much Humanity and Hope loves the people in the communities that we serve. The staff and volunteers show such genuine and sincere interest in every single person, and it is really evident that they believe in the vision for the organization and the change that is happening in the communities.

How has your life changed since working with Humanity and Hope?

I have learned so much during my time with Humanity and Hope. The people we serve have showed so much strength, resilience, and faith. They have truly changed the way I see life. It has also been great to get to know the American volunteers who come down to Honduras. They have taught me a lot about American culture.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I think some people may be surprised to learn that I decided to quit my lucrative construction job to focus on serving God with the people of the communities. I am really happy with this decision and know that God has blessed me more for it.
