2021 In Review

An Incredible Year for H&H

We accomplished so much together in 2021! Over the last year, we had big developments in our 6 pillars, our staff, and an initiative called Fuerza Honduras. In addition, we had 8 group trips visit and we also met two new communities to begin partnering with in 2022.

Health

  • Our health team vaccinated 80% people authorized to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and maintained a 0% mortality rate.

  • In response to the 2020 hurricanes, we provided 111 medical brigades to surrounding areas and to partner communities.

  • We held a health conference with CAPRODI, and offered nutritional supplementation to children at risk of malnutrition with BOUNTIFUL CHILDREN'S foundation.

Leadership

  • In Remolino and La Coroza, six people gave their life to Jesus and were baptized.

  • We began regular meetings to work through a book called “Su Historia” (His Story), where two adults stepped up to lead the studies and four people have already completed the book.

  • At the church in Remolino. seven adults and teens stepped up to help serve during the services.

Infrastructure

  • Our infrastructure team built 9 new homes for families in need of housing in La Cuchilla and 4 new homes for families in Remolino.

  • We recently completed a second and larger chicken coop in La Cuchilla to provide jobs for 11-12 more women.

  • We built a bridge to connect the community on both sides of the river, a new cattle area and a nursery area for the calves, and began building the new learning center in Remolino.

Community

  • We held celebrations in each community for many holidays, H&H's 11-year anniversary, home inaugurations, graduations, and more.

  • To pour into the women, we partnered with the Pearl Church and held a women's conference in all three partner communities.

  • We organized a piano and singing class to start this year for teens who are interested in learning.

Education

  • This fall, 11 students graduated - 8 teenagers 3 adult women. Many are the first in their families to graduate secondary school!

  • We hired 3 tutors for high school students providing face-to-face and personalized classes, as well as supervision of the performance of students.

  • With the help of their parents, we organized to send 9 of the high school graduates to university in 2022.

Economy

  • After a generous donation, we purchased a mixer and started a new feeding business for chicken and cattle feed in La Coroza.

  • We purchased 18 manzanas of land in Remolino to create more jobs for the men, to plant more corn to sell, and for the cattle business.

  • Throughout the year, we maintained one of the best plantain fields in all the surrounding areas in La Cuchilla.

Because of the problems caused by the migration crisis, COVID-19, lack of access to healthcare and overall a dignified life, our team took action and launched Fuerza Honduras. Learn more about our Fuerza Honduras here.

  • Together, we served 127,388 people and 29,625 families.

  • We visited 80 communities and completed 168 distributions of 15-day food provisions.

  • We partnered with One ATTA Time to provide families with clean water for more than 10 years.

  • We employed 15 people throughout the year to make up this team. Several of those who joined our team were from the communities we partner with.

  • Our medical staff treated thousands of patients with all types of health issues. Educational seminars were a very important part of our weekly brigades.

Group Trips

Throughout the year, despite COVID-19 struggles, we were able to have 8 groups safely come down to visit Honduras! This included an education-focused trip and a medical-focused trip of health professionals.

Team Expansion

We added four new staff members to our team – now we have a total of 13! Kori Wooten joined us in February of 2021, Jose Mejia came on in June, and Jonatan Lopez was hired in September. Ana Alas worked with us through Fuerza Honduras, and then officially joined our team in December!

We also gained 3 new board members: Peter Jurka, Paula Diaz, and Kellan McCauley. We’re so excited to have them as part of our team! Learn more about our board and staff here.
