Last week, Humanity and Hope welcomed a new member to our amazing team. Fabiola Calix joined us as our new health care manger! We are so excited to have her, and can’t wait to see the impact she will have on our communities. Welcome, Fabiola!
What were you doing before you joined H&H?
I’m from El Progresso originally and I live here with my husband and son. Before I joined H&H, I was taking care of my 1-year-old son. I was also working on a banana plantation providing medical care to the workers.
Why did you decide to get involved?
I’ve always been called to be in the medical field because I feel like I can make a difference in the lives of the patients I’m helping. I decided to be part of H&H to serve communities near where I grew up. It’s really special to be able to help your community and have a positive impact on their lives.
What are you most excited about doing in your new role?
I’m really excited to meet new people and be part of a community. I’m looking forward to listening to their challenges and offering solutions to their problems. I feel that we can have a great impact in controlling and preventing diseases in these communities.
What’s one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
I come from a big family! We are six siblings in total and my mom raised all of us by herself. Although there were of course many challenges growing up, I think these struggles really gave me a lot of perspective and I remember my childhood being generally very happy. Despite having limited economic means, all of my siblings went to college. I think this is a great story and I want to share this with others. With hard work, you can achieve all that you want to pursue.
